If you asked Majelen what her music feels like, she’d say it’s a sonic journey—imagine Ani DiFranco’s lyrical fire meets Ed Sheeran’s heart-on-sleeve storytelling, with a dash of acoustic doof doof.
Picture this: romantic wanderers, their hearts thumping to a rhythm of adventure and love, moving through mountaintop sunrises, coastal sunsets, and the wild Australian outback. It’s the soundtrack of backpackers chasing both dreams and horizons, all wrapped up in Majelen’s one-of-a-kind sound.
Her songs are more than just music—they’re stories that invite reflection and joy. With lyrics that stir the soul, melodies that soar, and a pulse that drives you forward, Majelen’s music is an uplifting escape into her world of wanderlust and wonder.
A graduate of the prestigious Conservatorium of Music, Majelen's roots are in jazz guitar, but her heart beats for the raw energy of acoustic music. She’s crafted a signature playing style that defies convention—her right hand doesn’t just strum; it drums, creating a rich, percussive landscape that makes her live performances a force of nature. It’s a rhythmic technique that transforms her shows into a dynamic, immersive experience, leaving audiences entranced.
Her debut studio album, recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, is set for release in 2024 under her own Australian-based label, Liondance Records. The industry is already taking note: she’s been nominated for Musician of the Year and Breakout Artist of the Year at the 2024 Gold Coast Music Awards, while her tracks have charted in the top 100 across Australia, Europe, Canada, the USA, and the UK. She’s even collaborated with Australian guitar maker Cole Clark Guitars, resulting in her own signature “Majelen” model, and has caught the eye of top-tier brands like Sheeran Loopers.
Having toured extensively through the UK, Europe, and the USA in 2023 and early 2024 and supporting Xavier Rudd, Majelen is now gearing up for an exciting run of shows across Australia and beyond in 2025. Her music isn’t just a performance; it’s an invitation to join her on a journey—and there’s no telling where it will take you next.
Majelen is a vibrant force in the Australian acoustic music scene, captivating audiences with her signature guitar style and ethereal vocals. Her debut album, Stuck With You, is a heartfelt, documentary-style journey that takes listeners on a unique adventure across Australia and beyond, accompanied by her wife, their cat, and dog. This album beautifully celebrates love and wanderlust, intertwining tales from their travels with a deep affection for her wife.
Fusing jazz, blues, folk, rock, and soul, Majelen crafts a rich, immersive experience that resonates deeply. Influenced by the likes of Ani DiFranco and Ed Sheeran, Stuck With You captures her artistic evolution, recorded over 18 transformative hours in the iconic Abbey Road Studios. Each track unveils a blend of technical guitar brilliance and poignant lyrics, making it a must-listen for anyone yearning for the enchanting sounds of acoustic doof doof—a musical backpacking adventure from the comfort of your seat. Dive into the soundscape of Stuck With You and let it resonate with your soul.
"The recording took place in Studio 3 at Abbey Road Studios, which is the smallest room (but was still pretty massive to be honest!). I stood in the same room where Ella Fitzgerald had recorded, where Amy Winehouse created some of her final tracks and where Pink Floyd recorded Dark Side of the Moon. I even used the same microphone as Ella - a beautiful Neumann (of course), and as I stood in there tracking these songs, I tried to absorb some of those legends’ awesomeness from within the walls. It was a real honor to record there and walk those corridors where the greats have been. Maybe I’ll get to do it again someday!"

She is a wonderful unique player that shows what our guitar can do. Her choice of a single Humbucker True Hybrid shows that she is pushing the boundaries of tradition”.

Do you live and record/mix your music permanently on your bus (Nioka)? What is it like working on the road?
Yes, my wife and I live in our bus Nioka with our cat and dog. We built it ourselves and have now been living in her for three years! I record, mix and master in the bus as well. It used to have a ’studio’ space in the back but as we lived in her for a bit longer I figured out how to record in the “kitchen” space and bought some incredible mics that help to get a very clean sound, and I have stands for the speakers set up in what is now our bedroom for when I am mixing and mastering. This way we can have the best of both worlds! I love working on the road - it gives me the freedom to take the time I want to when it comes to creating my future releases, and the lifestyle we have built for ourselves is amazing. I consider myself very very lucky!
When was Liondance Records Established?
Liondance Records was established in 2020, and was originally started because I would like to use it as a long-term goal to help other female musicians and artists in the industry.
What has been one/some of your greatest achievements within your music career?
Some of the greatest achievements of my career so far would probably be stuff that seems minimal, but it’s learning how to do everything yourself and be self-sufficient running an international creative business in a profitable way.
It’s not easy and take a LOT of work. My wife and I have just had to learn as we go and we’re in a position now where next year is looking like it’s going to be huge and very exciting, and I am very proud of both myself and my amazing wife Courtney for getting ourselves to this position.
If there was someone you could collaborate with who would that be?
I mean I have done some cool stuff too, like performing at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony and recording at Abbey Road Studios, plus I have a signature series “Majelen” model Cole Clark guitar coming out in a couple of weeks that is modelled after the one I play, but I think the biggest achievement is actually just the fact that Courtney and I have a vision and we’re turning it into a reality through just plain old hard work.
If I could collaborate with someone, I would probably say it would be someone like Kygo or Martin Garrix because I’d love to have my guitar in a fully sick dance track! Or Lindsey Stirling - she’s amaaaaaazing.
