Lewitt Audio has released the new RAY microphone packed with forward thinking technology.  What makes this microphone worth the price of admission is that it has two control panels on the front of the microphone and two lasers to determine distance. The AURA technology allows you to maintain a consistent microphone sound level whether you are close up on the mic or several feet away.  Consistent audio output without over or under modulation or distortion from far back or right on top of the mic. This is perfect for Live performances or recording where the vocalist may move up or back while singing.

It would also work for Podcasts, instrument micing or any sound reinforcement situation. Simply engage the AURA button on the front of mic and Lewitt’s tech does the rest for you. The RAY microphone also has a unique Mute function.  Secure the Mute button and set the distance away from the microphone that you want Ray to Mute the audio.  This could be from 3 inches or 3 feet.  Once you move past the designated distance from the microphone it Mutes automatically.  Then when you come back into the space it Un-Mutes.  It was fun testing this feature out and it worked perfectly.  The benefit of this Mute circuitry is that it blocks out ambient sound, if you need to cough or speak just step out of range and it keeps your stage audio clean.

The visual monitor on Ray shows you the distance that you have available so that you know when to stay in range or if you want to step out of range.  The visual cue is very helpful, and it lights up for dark stages. Feature wise Lewitt’s Ray microphone has a 1” true condenser mic capsule and cardioid microphone pattern. It has an all-analog signal path, for warmth, with standard XLR cable input. Your output mixer or source will need 48V phantom power for RAY to provide juice to the AURA and Mute features.  A magnetic pop filter, shock mount mic stand adapter, carrying bag and foam windscreen are included in the package.

The RAY microphone is priced at $349 which seems inexpensive considering the added technology and sound quality. The Mute and Aura features are easy to activate or turn off if you don’t need them.  But this is cutting edge technology built directly into the microphone.  I believe once you start using it on stage, for recording or for Podcasts you won’t want to go back to a standard microphone.  Achieve a cleaner and more consistent sound with Lewitt’s Ray microphone and spend less time editing or riding the mixer to control your sound.
