It is often helpful to have the right perspective before taking on tasks that may be too much or may seem untouchable. A sensible outlook regarding success can be accommodated with the proper perspective. Your situation may allow you to achieve every goal that you reach out for. But it often doesn’t calculate factors such as family, friends, and neighbors. Tragic events can wipe out a goal instantly and without notice. How can someone adapt to these events while maintaining their focus? Is it perspective? Does a sensible outlook help?
The answer is usually found in those that have experienced or triumphed over trials and challenges. Despite the odds that were stacked up against Bourbon House, they have been able to maintain their focus, and adapt to the needs of the industry. How would Bourbon House embrace the difficulty of the challenge? What character traits enabled them to become successful despite the odds?
Those are just some of the questions that we have for this talented group. First, let’s review some key points about Bourbon House
Founded in 2017 by vocalist Lacey Crowe and guitarist Jason Clark, Bourbon House are a modern rock ‘n’ roll band whose music is heavily inspired by their timeless predecessors Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Bad Company, to name a few. Following up their first album was Wild Abandon (2018), Into The Red (2021) and their most recent release, The Fourth Album (2023).
Managing themselves under their own label, Steel Jacket Records, Bourbon House have been on an upward trajectory since their debut. They made Classic Rock Magazine's "Hot List" with a full page feature, were named one of 15 Rising Rock Bands by acclaimed music journalist Matt Wake, climbed Matt Pinfield's Weekly Rock Countdown, and have been invited to perform at several music festivals this year.
At the center of Bourbon House's music are Crowe's unique blues-rock vocals and Clark's gritty, bluesy guitar riffs. Their music is honest and their love for the human aspect of pure rock 'n' roll, as well as the desire to create an escape within their music, is the driving force behind their prolificity.
With more music to follow the release of The Fourth Album, festival slots, and their need to be in a continuous mode of creation, Bourbon House are poised for a strong presence in 2023.
GT: I am glad that we have a chance to speak to you today. When did you know that music was going to be your career path?
JASON CLARK: I knew we had potential when our first single, "Music in Your Bones," got airplay and very positive feedback in 2017. We decided to put everything we had into our music, and I began to wonder if we could achieve even bigger success.
GT: What kind of obstacles did you have to overcome to get to this point?
JASON CLARK: I think everyone has obstacles of some kind. For me, it was believing in myself and not thinking about what anyone thinks about my playing, particularly the haters and trolls. That's probably the biggest obstacle for any artist.
GT: What was your perspective regarding the challenges that you faced?
JASON CLARK: My perspective is that you don't need to be the next Jimmy Page or Eddie van Halen to have a lot of success. Everyone has something unique to contribute. Everyone can be a positive influence and an inspiration.
GT: Who were your inspirations for creating such a talented band?
JASON CLARK: I grew up loving the rock and roll of the 50s through the 70s. Everything from Chuck Berry and Elvis to Bob Seger and Foreigner. Everything in the middle, too: Beatles, Hendrix, CCR, Zeppelin, and Bad Company. Just to name a few.
GT: Did you have anyone that opposed what you were trying to accomplish collectively?
JASON CLARK: I think every band has some opposition. It's almost always jealous people, and we never spent much time thinking about them.
GT: What are some of the challenges that you face now? How do you anticipate overcoming them?
JASON CLARK: Our current challenges are making ourselves stand out among the thousands of other bands out there. Using social media to reach as many new fans as possible. And continuing to make new and interesting music, which gets harder over time.
GT: I strongly believe that you are gifted. You have all the elements to become one of the top performing artists in the industry. What sorts of things do you feel will get you there?
JASON CLARK: I've always thought that being prolific was a key to success. Whatever you produce, produce a lot of it. That's why we're always writing and recording new songs, and shooting videos. Each piece of content moves us forward.
GT: Where does your support come from?
JASON CLARK: We have an incredible support system from family, but we also have a great group of super-fans all over the world. It's easy to feel encouraged with so much love and support behind us.
GT: What are you accomplishing as of late? Do you have any new releases? What are you working on in the studio?
JASON CLARK: Right now we're writing our fifth album. New singles and videos will follow throughout this year. You can expect the kind of rock we're known for, and a few surprises.
GT: What are some of your favorite instruments that seal the deal on each of your shows? Is there a specific stage plot, that is unconventional? Please explain.
JASON CLARK: We're a pretty standard four piece live, with the occasional guest, but my main instruments are a Les Paul and a Peavy Classic 30. My signature splatter stratocaster was created during the filming of our "6000 Miles" music video.
GT: Do you recall the first vinyl record that you ever purchased? It could be your first Cassette or CD.
JASON CLARK: The first cassette I ever purchased was Led Zeppelin III. The first CD was Aerosmith's Pump.
GT: Who are the leaders in rock music according to your feelings of admiration?
JASON CLARK: I admire bands who are creating music that doesn't sound like a repetition of whoever is at the top. Some bands I think deserve to be leaders are The Pretty Reckless, Rival Sons, Dirty Honey and Larkin Poe.
GT: What are the differences between the music you perform, and the music of our modern day? I know the answer. Just would like to hear you express it.
JASON CLARK: There are many differences between Bourbon House and the modern rock sound. We don't use pitch correction, which most bands use today. We try to keep the production under control, so we don't sound too polished and glossy. As producers, we keep our 70's influences in mind and aim for that sound.
GT: That is awesome. Bourbon House has really nailed it. I believe you all have the confidence and talent to really make it happen in the music industry.
